Where Is The Love?
I have been wanting to post this entry for ages but just didn't get down to it. It saddens me just thinking about it.This happened about a month ago on an MRT train heading west.
I was on my way to Rizal's house. Long journey...I boarded the train at Tampines station. Looked around and found that there were no seats for me. It's all right. I'll make do with sitting on the floor and reading my Architecture Drafting for Dummies book.
After a few stations I looked up from my book and to my utmost shock, I realised that there were about 7 elderly people standing up. I mean, didn't Moral Education in primary and secondary school teach us to give up our seats to the elderly?
That disappointed me totally. The next thing I did was look around to see who are those selfish bitches and bastards who won't give up their seats to those elderly. The next surprise for me was when I found most of the people seated to be professionals in exec wear!!! There were also 2 girls who i guess were from poly sitting right in front of this elderly man who was standing. The girls were chatting away.
One surprise after another; the next one was, there was this other elderly man who was limping and he had a walking stick! No one... I repeat... NO ONE gave up their seat for him. I would have given up my seat if I had one! Where has all the compassion gone? It saddens me to see the old man standing there.
Soon, at one of the stations, this lady stood up n got off the train. An empty seat!!! Finally! I saw the man slowly balanced himself with his stick n was about to head to the the seat... he was struggling. Guess what next? Surprise, surprise... this man in his late 20s, smartly dressed in exec wear went up to the seat and sat down. He must have noticed the old man because after he sat down, he looked at the elderly man. I thought he was going to stand up back but instead he leaned back closed his eyes and slept...or pretended to sleep.
The elderly people who were standing all burst into chatter. I can't hear what they were saying but I assumed that they were speaking about how inconsiderate people nowadays were. The fact that they were smartly dressed in exec wear, they must be somewhat educated in one way or another. But they don't have compassion at all!
Shame on you people on the train that day! Wonder if it's like that everywhere today. What a pity. Moral education lessons have all gone down the drain. We scored when it comes to theory but when it is to be practiced... *poof* all is gone.
